Position description: Geneva Woods Ear, Nose and Throat Associates, Inc. located in Anchorage, Alaska, is seeking a full time physician assistant to join the medical staff of an established otolaryngology practice. Anchorage is blessed with a vibrant arts community, excellent school system and immediate access to the great outdoors.
Our clinic accepts all ages of otolaryngology patients so opportunity exists to work with children and adults of all ages. Our practitioners evaluate and treat problems related to ears, nose, throat, sinus, hearing problems and surgical treatment of sleep disorders. We also manage tumors, both benign and malignant, of the head/neck area including thyroid. Two practitioners have fellowships in otology and the clinic is a referral center for otologic procedures from all over the State.
The physician assistant will work Monday through Friday in a clinic setting. One satellite clinic located approximately fifty miles from Anchorage is covered by the physician assistant every Tuesday (all day) and every Wednesday afternoon. Some administrative work included (90% clinical, 10% administrative).
Applicants with ENT experience are a plus. Must be BLS, ACLS, and PALS certified. Applicants must also be certified or eligible for certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistance (NCCPA).

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS

(Consideration given for candidate with five or more (5+) years and high recommendations as a CHP in good standing prior to completion and high recommendations of a MLP program in lieu of an advanced degree or experience on a case by case basis if involved in a special mentoring program.)
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Non-supervisory – Two (2) years mid-level health provider experience in primary care. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.
MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION
Certification in ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) or AANP (American Academy Of Nurse Practitioners) for Nurse Practitioners AND a State of Alaska License as a PA or ANP (Advanced Nurse Practitioner) is required.

Position description: Spring 2012 Project Based Physician Assistant
Two Week On/Two Week Off Work Rotation Remote Alaska
This position will be located on the North Slope at a Beacon medical facility. The workforce consists of oil field contractor employees. The number of employees varies considerably due to construction stages, drilling operations, maintenance and operating.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Provides acute and occupational medical care to on-site employees. Responds to emergency situations (medical, fire and spills). Stabilizes seriously ill and injured patients and arranges emergency air evacuation to hospitals in Anchorage or Fairbanks. Utilizes standard modalities of diagnosis and treatment approved by the supervising emergency and occupational medical physicians. Performs occupational surveillance testing (audiograms, pulmonary function tests, physicals, drug test collections etc.). Consults with occupational medicine physician in follow up of employees with occupational illnesses or injuries.
At the request of the client, maintain occupational medicine skills through specific training (CAOHC Occupational Hearing Conservationist, NIOSH Pulmonary Function Technician).
Principal Accountabilities:
1. Responds primarily to emergency situations on the North Slope. Provides leadership and supervision to the EMTs of the Medical Emergency Response Team. Directs triage, patient transport, and medical supervision at mass casualty incidents. Interfaces with other response team sections. Maintains readiness of emergency vehicles and supplies.
2. Determines the need for emergency air evacuation of seriously ill or injured patients to appropriate medical centers in Anchorage and Fairbanks.
3. Diagnoses and treats illnesses and injuries of the workforce according to collaborative agreement with the supervising physicians.
4. Conducts laboratory, radiological and electro-cardiograph diagnostic p! rocedure s as required.
5. Refers patients to appropriate consulting physicians and dentists within Alaska when the scope of required medical care is beyond the capabilities of the medical facility.
6. Prescribes and dispenses appropriate pharmaceuticals including controlled substances as approved by the supervising physician, within the scope of the collaborative agreement and in accordance with DEA regulations.
7. Leads and participates in weekly training sessions of the MERT (Medical Emergency Response Team). Participates in MERT, ERT, and SRT drills.
8. Performs employee occupational surveillance testing as required by Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection programs and the NFPA physicals. Consults with occupational medicine physician as necessary.
9. Maintains medical records according to company policies and expected standards of medical practice. This includes but is not limited to injury reporting, completion/review of medical forms, and maintenance of statistical logs.
10. Consults with supervising physician in patient care problems resulting from unusual or chronic illnesses, psychological illness, or substance abuse.
11. Consults with employee's supervisor, safety representative, Human Resources, Worker's Compensation coordinator, and specialist physicians to coordinate injury rehabilitation and return to work.
12. Maintains state licensure and national certification by completing required educational and testing programs.
13. Health Promotions: Assist with and performance of response team fitness assessments, and other health promotion programs.
14. Maintains work areas and equipment to ensure compliance with blood borne pathogens regulations, cleanliness, and proper functioning of clinical medical equipment.
15. Maintains active communication with colleagues at other North Slope facilities.
16. Has the required computer skills to operate standard Microsoft office applications and occupational health programs as required.
